Profile

Standing at 6 ft 4 in, Ben Cutting's statuesque built adds an extra quality to the fiery pace of this prodigious national prospect. The right-arm fast bowler made his first class debut in 2007 against Tasmania, where he picked up three wickets. But unfortunately, a side strain kept him out of action for the rest of the year.

However, he blossomed in the 2009-10 season when the talented quickie amassed 46 wickets in the Sheffield Shield at an average of 23.91. In a match against New South Wales in the same season, ‘Cuttsy’ (as he is commonly known) sent the batsman hopping all over the crease with his sharp bouncers and express pace. His first innings 5-wicket haul in that match, included the likes of Phil Jaques, Philip Hughes and Simon Katich. The right-arm pacer topped that performance with career best figures of 6/37 against Tasmania in the very next match. He went on to add 15 wickets in the one-day competition and also added noticeable contributions with the bat to sum up a successful 2009-10 season.

The youngster was in the reckoning to be a standby for the Test series in New Zealand in early 2010 but a frustrating ankle injury robbed the young paceman of a chance. But the selectors showed faith in the lad and included him in the squad to face the Kiwis in the Gabba Test in the 2011-12 season.
